Juanita entered her textile embroidery Tiger Lillies in the quilt competition at the West Country Quilt Show, she was awarded the rosette for ’embellishment / surface texture’. The show was held in November 2014 at the University of the West of England Exhibition Centre in Bristol, more information on the show can be found here – www.westcountryquiltshow.co.uk/
Tiger Lillies is inspired by a Chinese vase that was filled with spring flowers. The base of the piece is painted silk which is then covered in free machine and hand embroidery. The border is influenced by the colours and stylised flowers on the vase.
Juanita has just moved to the West County and this was the first time Juanita exhibited any work in the area.
Juanita will have a gallery ‘The Magic of Thread’ at three patchwork / quilting events run by Grosvenor Shows in 2016. The gallery will feature Juanita’s best work and includes the quilts ‘Shared Jeans’, ‘David’ and a recently completed self portrait along with several other large textiles.
